Women's Wisdom Series

The Cheyenne ATHENA organization kicked off a series of Women's Wisdom events with a lunch meeting titled:
"Social Responsibility, Civic Trusteeship and how to manage it all." Our featured speaker, Mary Randolph talked about the importance of volunteering in the community. "You can really make a difference in your own life, and in the lives of others." Randolph said, while Wyoming is ranked 12th in the nation for volunteering, there are always non-profit organizations and other places looking for help.
Over thirty women and several brave men attended this first session of ATHENA workshops. Discussion was led by a two person panel led by Western Vista Bank President, John Balser and Western States Learning Corporation consultant Brittany Ashby. The panelists shared with the audience how businesses can incorporate community service into an employees employment expectation and how to manage both career and community involvement.
There was a lot of lively discussion, including how to get the youth of the community more involved and teach civic trusteeship. One audience member commented that recent studies have shown that many universities are now taking volunteer hours into consideration when determining acceptance. The audience also discussed "true" volunteerism. Finding an organization to serve not to just stack a resume... but, to truly make a difference.
If you would like to further discuss volunteerism in Cheyenne we welcome you to join our Blog and discuss civic trusteeship.
